I live in the Dordogne with my husband and our dog.
I have worked in the property industry my entire working life. I began my career in London, sourcing properties for a large agency and then moving into the Property Lettings and Relocations sector for Hamptons International in South West London, before moving back to work within the same sector and company in the competitive Cotswolds market.
In 2022 my husband and I decided we needed a new adventure and embarked on our journey moving to France. We settled in the Dordogne, attracted by the climate, beautiful villages, food and wine and proximity to Paris, the South coast and excellent airports.
Despite working in property for many years, finding our new home wasn’t without its struggles. There are dozens of property platforms claiming to offer properties for sale - but soon learnt these can be out of date and quite misleading. We came across a wealth of local agents who still sell the majority of their properties through word of mouth or the shop window.
We learnt we needed to do four things. Firstly, we needed to be really clear about our search criteria - price, place, property type. Secondly, we needed to get out there and get to know the area - putting in the miles, driving from town to town, village to village to test and validate our criteria. Thirdly, we needed to get to know the local estate agents so we were aware of all the property on or coming to market. Finally, we had to navigate the French love of bureaucracy to get everything over the line.
It was all well worth it when we finally moved into our dream home.
We learnt a lot along the way and I am passionate about sharing my experience and property expertise with others looking to buy a home in South-West France.
